Will it all be virtual by 2012?
Learn and Play
I am just finishing up the 23 things for Learn and Play. I was already familiar with most of the web 2.0 things on the list. My favorite part of the experience has been watching our staff learn. And play!
MOLDI
The Mid-Ohio Library Digital Initiative is a cooperative project of several Ohio libraries to provide digital content such as e-books, digital audio books, classical music, and digital movies to their users. My experience with it has not been particularly positive. I cannot imagine reading a novel on my PC, so the e-books don’t interest me at all. They might be good for someone doing homework, maybe. Nor would I ever listen to an audio book on my PC. I did once download an audio book to my MP3 player, but I discovered I prefer to listen to music on my MP3 player. The music offered is only classical, which I don’t listen to. I’ve never been able to get an Eflick movie to play, even after downloading the required software. Since I work at the library, it’s much easier for me to get these materials in formats more to my liking. I am not likely to use MOLDI in the future, unless it is greatly enhanced in some way.
Podcasts
Does anyone have a good suggestion for a useful, interesting, or entertaining podcast to listen to? I’ve checked out a bunch from several different podcast directories. I have not been successful in finding anything even remotely interesting to me out there. I just kept thinking, “Who listens to this crap?” Most seem like they only exist because the creators just love to hear themselves talk, so they assume other people would love it too.
23 things
I’m supposed to create a blog post about CML’s Power Tools. I can’t say that I find them particularly useful. The “Tooling Around” feature consists of a 2 month old posting about gmail, which I already use. I have not found the Tool Bar to be useful. The Tool Box seems to just be links to some web 2.0 sites, many of which I already knew about. Has anyone come to different conclusions on this issue?
